Portrait Milano, located at 11 Corso Venezia, is owned by the Lungarno Collection, which is the hotel arm of the Ferragamo family, best known for their fashion brand. The five-star hotel set in a historically significant building that was once a seminary brings a new form of quite yet sophisticated luxury to the heart of Milan. Originally founded in 1565 by St. Charles Borromeo as the Archiepiscopal Seminary, the site has a rich history. The building, which started as the Humiliati Monastery, was redesigned by notable architects over the centuries, featuring a grand central courtyard and a Baroque portal.

In the 18th and early 19th centuries, the building served various purposes, including as a boarding school, military hospital, and prison. It played a role in the Risorgimento and World War I. After sustaining damage in World War II, it was partially restored in 1967 by architect Piero Portaluppi and further renovated by Mario Bellini’s atelier in the 1980s.

The recent renovation by architect Michele Bönan has transformed the building into a luxury hotel with 73 rooms, including romantic suites, family suites, and spacious guestrooms with features like large closets and leather-encased shoe care kits. Each room combines modern amenities with classic Italian design, featuring air conditioning, a coffee machine, a minibar, a flat-screen TV, and luxury toiletries.

The hotel also offers the Longevity Suite, a wellness center with biohacking and anti-aging treatments, and an indoor pool with ancient columns. Design highlights include sketches of Ferragamo shoe designs from the mid-20th century displayed in the rooms, blending historic features with modern elements for a unique and luxurious experience.
