Singer Reimagined’s Watchmaking Revolution
With a legacy rooted in bold innovation, craftsmanship, and an aesthetic, Singer Reimagined has emerged as a leading figure in haute horology, operating under the belief that “Everything is Important.”
The journey began with Singer Vehicle Design, founded by Rob Dickinson in 2009 to reimagine the Porsche 911, a car already celebrated as an automotive icon. Dickinson’s mission was to perfect what was already considered perfection, adding a level of mastery and detail that captivated car enthusiasts worldwide. This ethos of refinement and precision seamlessly transitioned into the world of watchmaking.
As noted in their catalog, Singer watches embody the “visceral excitement of car racing” and are inspired by the golden era of classic chronographs. This strong connection to racing and timekeeping heritage shapes Singer Reimagined, with each watch representing performance and skill.
From Classic Cars to Timeless Watches
Singer’s timepieces pay tribute to the vintage designs of iconic ‘60s and ‘70s watches, now updated with functional improvements and modern horological engineering.
In 1969, the first three automatic chronographs—the Chronomatic, El Primero, and Caliber 6139—were released, making that year notable not only for these watches but also for cultural milestones like Woodstock, the Moon landing, and the first Concorde flight.
Marco Borraccino, the creative mind behind Singer, reflects on this:
“When it came to designing the Singer 1969 collection, I really wanted these watches to provide the feeling that they have been designed back in time. They are a tribute to the timepieces I love, a love letter to an era that is profoundly meaningful to me and that has inspired and driven so many aspects of my life. But at the same time, they are a manifesto of today’s state-of-the-art technology and quintessential high-watchmaking refinement deployed by Singer.”
Revolutionary Chronograph: The Agengraphe Movement
One of the most significant breakthroughs in Singer Reimagined’s journey was the creation of the Agengraphe movement. This exceptional mechanism, which took over a decade to develop, transformed the chronograph by featuring a central chronograph display. The innovation made the timing functions far more legible than those of traditional chronographs. With this new design, Singer successfully merged precision with user-friendly aesthetics, pushing the limits of modern timekeeping.
The Track 1 Collection, launched in 2017 with its sleek dials, minimalist design, and advanced mechanical engineering, the collection became a symbol of modern watchmaking excellence. The Track 1 Hong Kong Edition earned the prestigious Best Chronograph award at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève in 2018.
The Flytrack Collection, launched in 2020, introduced additional functionalities such as the Pulsometer, Telemeter, and Tachymeter. This series highlighted Singer’s mission to offer not just stunning watches, but also delivering practical value.
Singer Reimagined has continuously pushed the boundaries of watchmaking since its inception. In 2022, the Skeleton Collection highlighted the intricate beauty of the Agengraphe movement, while the quirky Flytrack Barista, featuring a one-minute coffee-brewing scale, broke new ground in creative watch design.
During the Geneva Watch Days 2024, Singer Reimagined unveiled the Divetrack, a dive watch that elevates underwater timekeeping to new heights. The Divetrack distinguishes itself with its unique Singer Central Automatic 24-hour Chronograph, providing enhanced readability and functionality specifically designed for divers. It features a Central Sub-Counter that segments dive time into distinct phases—CHILL, DIVE, and FLY—delivering essential insights into dive safety and performance. Built from grade-5 titanium and boasting 300m water resistance, the watch is equipped with a helium escape valve and a scratch-resistant ceramic aluminium bezel coated in Super-LumiNova for enhanced visibility. Powered by the Agengraphe 24-hour Automatic Chronograph movement, it delivers a 72-hour power reserve and jumping indicators, appealing to both diving professionals and horology aficionados.
Exploring Singer’s Reimagined history reveals that it is more than just a watch brand. It’s a testament to what can be achieved when passion, artistry, and an unwavering commitment to detail come together. From its early beginnings in car restoration to its dominance in high-end watchmaking, Singer remains committed to its philosophy that “Everything is Important.” This mantra drives every aspect of their work, ensuring that each watch meets and exceeds expectations of functionality, beauty, and innovation.
“I never worked to reach the highest level, but I always fought to do what I love. What makes me proud today is having the chance to design and create while always pushing the boundaries.” — MARCO BORRACCINO.
